Today's sermon

Today's sermon was by Pastor Khoo Khay Huat on the measuring tapes in our lives. Firstly, we should not use measuring tapes or any forms of measurement to measure the extent of God's miracles and promises. There are no limits to what God can do for us. Jesus went to Nazareth and the people there doubted his abilities to heal, using their "measuring tapes" to measure him even before they had seen His true powers. Jesus went on to another city and the people there put away their "measuring tapes", welcoming him and Jesus healed the people there. The lesson was that no forms of measurement or man-made thing can be possibly used to measure the immense power strength of God's promises to us, the gifts He has endowed upon us. This is supernatural and not for us to limit. People who are downcast or crestfallen should not lose hope on God. They should believe that God can still do something to their lives rather than sulk and despair. Some of these people put their "measuring tapes" to God and in their minds, limit what He can do hence their lives are unchanged. But those who are willing to accept, to receive, to believe that God is omnipotent will be saved.

Secondly, we should not use "measuring tapes" on ourselves. It means that we should not look at others, envy them of their possessions, talents etc. Often, people tend to compare themselves with their counterparts, to compare how unfortunate they are to their peers. On the measuring tape, they think, other people blessed so abundantly with talent were a great deal of measuring tape and they felt that they themselves were nothing as compared to their counterparts. This demoralising fact is a restricting and limiting factor as these people are not willing to change their lives for the better either through their own efforts or through praying. Everything has a purpose in this world and we should go about striving for our own goals in life, instead of comparing. Comparing only makes people feel hopeless and waste time on mooding around instead of picking themselves up and looking on the bright side of life.

Thirdly, we should not use "measuring tape" on others by judging them. People of these sorts are the total opposite of the second type of people. They go around looking at others scornfully and judging others as inferior as compared to themselves. They proudly measure themselves of their talents and possessions and brag it off. It is time for such people to stop judging others and reflecting instead on themselves, not judging at the same time.

Well, this is an overview of the sermon for today.
